Many of you are aware that I have written a children’s book and had it published. Charles Meets a Fire Marshal was inspired by a friend who has worked in our local fire department for years. He helps plan activities to educate the community on fire safety. As part of a community outreach initiative, he also has presentations for children. My goal was to provide a supplement for his program.
This book can be used:
- reinforce lessons from fire safety themes and presentations
- encourage children to participate in fire drills
- show children another community service career opportunity.
This year, it has also been added to a number of books that will be read for Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2019 (MCBD). The idea behind this event is to bring awareness of diversity to our young readers. MCBD books featured will cover a variety of subjects ranging from ethnicities to disabilities. There will be many hosts and co-hosts participating on social media. There will be opportunities to win books and other prizes during a twitter party. Follow the hashtag “ReadYourWorld” to participate and stay up-to-date on activities.
